OpenTTD
Appearance
Base48 runs a public OpenTTD server with a Czech and Slovak flavour: Czech town names, Czech trains, buses and trams, šalinas included. Anyone can join, member or not. The game also talks back to the space: what happens in it shows up on the šalina panel.
How to play
- Get OpenTTD in the same version as the server (currently 15.3).
- Multiplayer → find Base48 Vanilla Plus CS CZ in the server list, or Add server →
play.base48.cz. - No password. Missing NewGRFs? The join dialog offers to download them from online content.
- Found a company, or join a friend's. Room for 25 players and 15 companies.
What's on the map
- A 512×512 temperate map with 25 NewGRFs: Czech and Slovak town names, CS stations, Czech road and railway sets, 2cc trains, several tram sets (CS šalina set among them), CS buses, Road Hog, av8 and AeroLiners aircraft, SHARK ships.
- The base48 game script:
- greets everyone who joins, in Czech;
- prints newspapers from Base48's own history (founding, the move to Královo Pole, the car workshop) once the in-game calendar reaches them;
- reports what happens in the game to the space.
In the space
The šalina panel shows how the game is going: in-game date, who's playing, and each company's money, loan and vehicles.
Events come in as line 98 OpenTTD: players joining and leaving, new, renamed and bankrupt companies, a company's first vehicle reaching a station, crashes (UFOs included). At most one every 5 minutes, so the panel doesn't turn into an OpenTTD ticker.
Spectators, such as the TV in the space, don't count as players.
Under the hood
- The server runs in AMP at the base.
- A small Python bridge watches the game through OpenTTD's admin port and hands the summary and events to Home Assistant, which drives the panel.
- Admins can also drop a newspaper of their own into the running game.
